Managing Table Relationships

< 1 min read

After loading the dataset into Power BI, it may be necessary to establish the underlying relationships between the primary keys of the fact and dimension tables in the star schema of the cBI Focus Planner. This is a crucial requirement for utilizing the write-back function of data through the cBI Focus Planner into the SQL database. Detailed information about the conceptual structure and significance of the star schema can be found in this section.

Establishing Relationships Between Fact and Dimension Tables:

  1. Open the “Manage relationships” section in the “Model view” of Power BI Desktop.
  1. Create one-to-many relationships between the central fact table and all relevant dimension tables.

Ensure that each dimension table used is directly connected to the fact table. Only when all necessary links are established is the model considered a valid star schema—and only then can the cBI Focus Planner be used properly.
